Municipal companies and public utilities are the central regional infrastructure service providers. As local energy suppliers and energy network operators, they play a decisive role in the success of the heating transition and in achieving climate targets. In cooperation with others, they invest in large-scale energy generation projects, including in the offshore sector, or develop the basis for cost-effective energy supply in the future through municipal heating planning. Against this backdrop, the energy division of municipal utilities faces a major challenge, both financially and operationally. To implement digitalization, they are participating in the further development of high-performance communication networks. In other important areas of municipal infrastructure, they contribute to ensuring that the business location offers a high level of performance. Municipal utilities and other municipal companies are therefore important partners for the success of economic transformation.
