The Dortmund Chamber of Industry and Commerce  and the Essen Chamber of Industry and Commerce are inviting companies to a practical and exchange-oriented event on August 27 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in Dortmund on the EU Regulation on Deforestation-Free Products (EUDR). The aim is to prepare affected companies at an early stage for the requirements that will become binding on December 30, 2025 (for medium-sized and large companies) and June 30, 2026 (for small companies).

The EU Regulation on Deforestation-Free Products (EUDR)

The EUDR requires companies to ensure that certain raw materials – including wood, coffee, cocoa, rubber, palm oil, beef, and soy – and products made from them may only be placed on the EU market, traded, or exported if they:

  • are free from deforestation,
  • have been produced in accordance with the legislation of the country of origin,
  • and a due diligence declaration is available.

More information on the EUDR and background information on how it affects you can be found on the IHK topic page EU Regulation on deforestation-free products.

Focus on practical implementation

The event highlights the requirements that companies must observe and implement once the regulation comes into force. Of particular relevance here are the EUDR due diligence obligations, which include the collection of information, the assessment of information with regard to deforestation and legality risks, and risk mitigation measures. In addition, corresponding risk management processes must be strategically anchored in relevant business processes.

Dr. Katrin Merhof and David Pyka from the Business & Human Rights Helpdesk explain the requirements of the EUDR, focusing in particular on practical challenges in implementation. In a joint exchange, solutions for practical ways of overcoming these challenges will then be developed.
